Looking Back

City and desert. Two ways of life. Two sign systems. One threshold.

Looking Back explores the narrow transitional space where the built environment ends and the desert begins. It is a place that belongs fully to neither side. Traces of urban order—posts, paths, structures and boundaries—remain visible, while the landscape beyond follows a different logic.

I am interested in this threshold because it reveals something we usually overlook: the boundaries we create while living inside them. Only at the edge do they become visible.

Made during a time of war and uncertainty, the work is not about darkness. I was drawn to this landscape as a place in which to look for light, continuity and hope.
